David has been making pots all his life. Starting with a ceramics B.A. in the distant past, working in potteries across the country to finally settle in Welcombe.
Passionate about the subject, he’s taught ceramics part time in colleges and now runs throwing workshops alongside a busy production pottery.
Simplicity of form and decoration combined with practical domestic use are the essential ingredients for his pots. “They have to be a pleasure to use”. High fired stoneware accounts for most of the work, using glazes that give a unique quality to each piece.
Alice started pottery classes as a child and has been a maker ever since. After a Fine Art Degree at West Surrey College of Art and Design she met David. They went on to set up Coniston Pottery in Cumbria. Now at Welcombe Pottery, Alice is making kiln formed glass as well as ceramics, both influenced by the coastal light, plant life and the dramatic seascape of North Devon.
